I respect the passion both sides have shown for their beliefs. But to me it is crystal clear with no hesitation as to why I will vote No.

I do not believe that in our community that new buildings should be a number one priority right now. We live in a time where money is extremely tight, people are retiring and admit it or not this area is declining because of poor values and lack of solid structure and guidance within families that children need in their lives. More families need to get stronger and be repaired.....not the buildings. Yes, there is a need for new buildings, but there is more of a need to get back on track with improving performance first.

It is too much money to ask from us to give to a district that doesn't show us positive results as a whole when we already pay a very high rate. I'm sorry I can't pay for something I don't have a guarantee for. This bond issue is for 37 years.....THIRTY SEVEN YEARS we will all be paying monthly for this. Even a car payment of 7 years makes me nervous. We are going to be paying for this longer than our personal mortgages!

Fix what you have with the money you do have. Have some fundraisers instead....I'm sure all of the people who really want this to happen can think of some way to get everyone to set up a direct deposit of what they are ready to pay for the next 37 years.

I have to vote No on this at this point in time until I see better performance.

    UPDATE:

OPEN ENROLLMENT now going on K-8 for next school year.

We have had many new families who have already been screened and have been enrolled from Winton Woods because of the new Ed Choice option for upcoming 5th and 6th grades. We welcome them and are very happy they have chosen our school to provide their children with a private high-quality education.

Please look at our website.....stjamesvalley.org for all the information you need to know about our school and parish. Our parish is receiving a new Priest beginning in June - Father Chris Coleman. He will be the priest for all of our community parish region which includes OLR, SJOV and St. Mathias. Very exciting things to come!

    Hello everyone!

On Sat. April 12th, the St. James of the Valley 8th grade will be hosting a first annual alumni basketball game. We are hoping to raise money for the class trip at the end of April.

We are looking to bring back our Alumni currently in high school to participate in the game and half time show. If you have a son or daughter currently in high school who attended St. James, we would love to have them or even to come cheer their old classmates on!!

This should be a very fun night for all! We will be selling pizza, snacks and baked goods. We will have split the pot and other games to participate in. We will have crafts set up the science lab for the little ones as well! We hope to see many alumni families there!

Please contact the St. James office (stjamesvalley.org) and leave a message for Josephine Petrey or Lisa McDonald with your high school age son or daughter's name, grade and contact information if they want to be a part of the show. Thanks again!

  9. smurfera added a post in a topic Attention WW 5th and 6th Grade Parents

We have had quite a few great WW fourth and fifth grade students shadowing at St. James of the Valley School since the news came out about the Ed Choice Scholarships being available for next year's 5th and 6th Graders entering or attending the Intermediate Building. It truly is a great opportunity and blessing for those families who desire a Christian/Catholic education and small school environment for their kids who otherwise could not afford one.

St. James of the Valley will continue Open Enrollment from here on out so if you are interested check it out soon - there are currently still open spots for next year's 5th and 6th grades and we welcome families who are looking for this type of education for their children.

Check out our website at stjamesvalley.org to learn more or call the school to make arrangements for a tour or to have your child shadow for the day.

Good luck if you pursue this option! There are other schools in the area too who accept the Ed Choice Scholarship and those are great options as well.

If you missed our Open House, please call for a private tour if you are considering private education. St. James of the Valley is only minutes away from Greenhills in beautiful Wyoming. Our student body largely consists of students who reside in Greenhills and Springfield Township. Winton Woods bussing available.

We do have slots available in each class for next year. We just heard that families with children going into either the 5th or 6th grade in Winton Woods are now eligible for Ohio's Ed Choice. SJOV does accept this scholarship. If the child meets the criteria for St. James then he/she could be considered for enrollment through this scholarship.

Are you looking for a school with a strong family atmosphere? This gem of a school is very special because of its smaller size. Every teacher knows every child's name and all the children know one other. St. James is known for its family-friendly feeling of school community.

  13. smurfera added a post in a topic Attention WW 5th and 6th Grade Parents

    FYI:

Parents of students who will be in either 5th or 6th grade in the WW school district next school year:

Since the 5th 6th grade building has been rated "emergency academic status", you now have an option to look into the Ohio Ed Choice Scholarship option to send your child to certain private schools is the area if you cannot afford a private education.

    Check into:

    http://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Other-Res...larship-Program

Just putting the information out there. If you do qualify for one, you do have to still interview and be accepted at these private schools to make sure your child is a fit. They must meet certain qualifications such as good grades, etc.. Some do not accept the scholarship, but some do. Just something to consider if you are unhappy.

St. James of the Valley is one school currently that has spots open in those two grades for next school year and perhaps other schools have current openings as well.

You can find information about St. James of the Valley at stjamesvalley.org. Most of our student body resides in the Village of Greenhills and Springfield Township and the students are transported by Winton Woods bussing.

    Good luck!

We are all blessed to have all of these great Catholic schools surrounding our area! You can't go wrong with any of them....check them all out -- ask for a personal tour by the principals and send your child to shadow for a day. That is the only way you will decide. Open Houses are not a clear reflection of what you will get. You need to interview the principal and ask lots of questions.

We have always been happy at St. James of the Valley. It's small, but my kids are getting a quality education and I believe are prepared for high school when they graduate as we have witnessed. Many kids go on to excel at the best high schools such as St. Xavier, LaSalle, Moeller and Roger Bacon, not to mention MND and St. Ursula and others.

I believe they are all good schools and it is a personal choice where you decide may be the best fit for your child.

Good luck on your search. I know Winton Woods - one of the grade buildings is at Emergency status now (I think Grades 5th and 6th) and those families are now able to get the Ed Choice and can move their kids to a private school if they want now.

Information just posted about SJOV's Open House. But I would recommend a personal tour by Jim Haag. He takes you to each classroom while the kids are learning and you can ask any questions you want. Then have your kids shadow for the day (whenever you are seriously looking and considering).
